Maui - Shopping in Kihei

I promised you all a post on the shop where I got my dress featured in my last post, so here it is: Mahina is a little gem located right on the main drag in Kihei on Maui and is definitely worth checking out. It had tons of fun jewelry and colourful summer tops and dresses for great prices!! Everything I tried on was around $40 and the dress from my last post was only $20!! They also have a facebook page and a website where you can find out more about them.

I love all of the colours!!

Hawaii - Exploring Maui

After nearly two weeks of beaches, shopping, margaritas and exploring I've returned home from an amazing vacation in Maui. I found some fun markets and two amazing independent clothing shops while exploring the island, and I will be sharing them over the next few days.

These first few are photos of me on the grounds surrounding our condo in a dress that I got for just $20 at a shop called Mahina in Kihei (which will be featured in my next post).

I loved waking up every morning to the sun and a view of the ocean from my balcony. Definitely something I could get used to. Hope you enjoy my next few posts!

Woolly Lattes - Perth

If you want to get away from an ordinary cafe without excitement you should definitely visit Woolly Lattes, on the corner of Jersey and Grantham Street. This is not only a gorgeous little cafe, but also a knitting and gift boutique and more recently a haven to showcase the talents of Australian artists. With its cosy and homey atmosphere, delicious coffee and treats, beautiful decor and gifts, this has got to be one of Perth's best coffee shops.

If I'm in need of something sweet macarons are definitely my first choice, with their crunchy almond coating and their sweat soft filling they are the perfect sweet treat. My favourite flavours to date would have to be passionfruit chilli and champagne delice and the best place to get them in Perth would have to be at the Byron Bay Cookies stall in the David Jones food hall.

If any of you know any other good places to find macarons I'd love to know about them.

Amazing new places - Perth

I've found more amazing new places, so be sure to check them out if you are in Perth!

Hero & Leander on Hampden Road in Nedlands, is one of those shops were it is close to impossible to not find something (or many things for that matter) that you love. Its diversification; stocking gorgeous trendy garments, beautiful home wares and deco, quirky and unique jewellery and so much more makes it a haven for spoiling yourself or someone special.

Test Tube off Beaufort Street in Mt Lawley, looks like a mini art gallery housing the most unusual but beautiful objects. They are conceptual and contemporary creations of everyday objects created by international designers with the ambition of bringing a little bit of silliness and uniqueness into relatively boring and mass produced world. This is the perfect place to buy a gift for someone who has everything or someone who enjoys something out of the ordinary; in my eyes it's simply brilliant.

William Topp pop up store is found on the corner of William and Wellington Streets and their permanent store is on 452 William Street. This amazing little store is home to all things vintage and arty sourced internationally and nationally, it's a great place to dress up your home in some unique home wares, reminisce over vintage tinned robots (that I am in love with!) and write sweet cards to loved ones. Everything in here is beyond beautiful.

Taylor Swift - Vogue Cover

I'm a die hard Taylor Swift fan, so naturally I went running to the store the minute I found out that she had finally made the cover of Vogue. Yay!! I absolutely love the entire spread, (photographed by Mario Testino!!) especially her cover shot with the straight hair and bangs.

Taylor was sitting front row at the Rodarte Spring 2012 RTW runway show before the interview and during the interview she visited the Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung and Joseph Altuzarra's showrooms. Jealous!!

My favourite outfit of the bunch. Taylor's wearing a quilted lame leather dress from Rodarte (fall 2009) and Michael Kors those over-the-knee boots.

I adore this outfit. Especially the dress and the white fringe Rodarte jacket.

Perfection - Oh Baby Love

When I saw this bag hiding behind many others in Bluebird Vintage, my heart skipped a beat and for a second I thought (and really wished) that I had landed on a baby Hermes Kelly! Unfortunately it is not a Hermes but it is an Aquascutum, so it's still a very good find and I am loving it more and more each day.

More wonderful boutiques - Perth

Subiaco has become a haven for all things trendy, but be sure to walk down little alley ways, that's where you will find the best of them.

Lexi & Roy just off Rockeby Road, on Forrest Walk exudes style and sophistication for both women and men with a wide range of really cool Australian designers. This store is so inviting because of its wonderful clean and spacious layout which also helps spotting the best buys.

Old love found on Denis Street in Subiaco, is a fabulous little boutique which prides itself with up-cycling (transforming a useless product into a new usable and better one) to create unique pieces like spoon necklaces (which I adore). They also have a wonderful body range and other awesome little knick knacks.

Em located just off Rockeby road on Forrest Walk, screams AMAZING! From their dresses to their incredible selection of Jeffery Campbell shoes to their gorgeous Disney Couture jewellery; this is a haven for all things beautiful and one to definitely check out asap!

Winter Wonderland - Sunset Photoshoot

Two of my best friends, Cait and Bri Sikkes (see our summer photoshoot) came over to take some winter photos with me and we were lucky enough to be shooting right when this beautiful pink and purple sunset happened. It's so beautiful in Smithers in the winter, so I thought I would share some of our photos with you. They turned out great! What amazing timing!

Wooly socks, fur hoods, mukluks and Hunter boots are what we've been living in this winter in cold Northern British Columbia. (It was minus 30 degrees just last week!!) I'm also loving wooly grey's and soft pinks this winter. Hope you enjoyed...more to come later on in the week.

Wonderful boutiques - Perth

I'm stalking the streets of Perth to find more wonderful boutiques.

Lucy In Disguise in Subiaco, is a gorgeous vintage store which also stocks retro costumes and accessories by local designers. What I love about this store is its airy layout (most vintage stores are often too clustered for my liking) and its homey feel that sends me straight into a different time. Make sure to visit this store if you love vintage, and be ready to be amazed.

Love Couture on Murray Street, is the place to go to for stylish bags, shoes and accessories. The shop itself looks so very chic and everything looks like it has just come off the runway but without the hefty price tag. Best of all they have amazing genuine leather bags in bright colours, perfect for the colour blocking trend!

Eldorado on 331 Murray Street is one of the few independent stores left on the this strip and is definitely worth a visit. Its cool, modern bohemian style reminds me of what I thought all stores in Australia would be like before I moved here. A mix of urban street wear with casual chic and adorable quirky jewellery!

Louis Vuitton - 60s-Inspired Collars

The Paris runway show for Louis Vuitton's RTW Spring/Summer 2012 collection was one of my all-time favourites. It was like a fairytale: staged on a white, lit-up carousel with the models - in Louis V's whimsical designs accompanied by white accessories and diamond-studded tiaras and headbands - riding around on ceramic horses. Watch clip here.

The entire show, featuring 1960s couture-inspired garments, was a spectacle to see, but what I really loved from Louis Vuitton's RTW collection were the structured/collared blouses and dresses. They're a classic look that can be worn anytime, wether you're working or playing.

Exploring the island - Mauritius

During my holiday I tried to be a little active and explore the island as much as possible, therefore I did a lot of walking and hiking and found these beautiful locations. I also wanted to show people a different side to Mauritius and let them discover its other hidden beauties.

So sorry that we have been MIA on the blog lately!! I have been sick, and as you all know the holiday season is a very busy time, but now it's the New Year and Nadine and I will be back at it. In her new show Hart of Dixie, Bilson plays a fashion-forward, New York bred Doctor, stuck in a small southern town, but wether it's on TV or in real life, she always has great style.

Bilson also designed a line of shoes for ShoeMint last year. Each month a new group of designs is available for the reasonable price of $79.99!! The project is a collaboration between Bilson, her stylist Nicole Chavez, and Steve Madden.

Emma Stone

2011 was a huge year for Miss Emma Stone, she starred in my three favourite movies of the year: The Help, Friends with Benefits and Crazy Stupid Love. She was nominated for a Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her work in Easy A! And I'll be very surprised if she doesn't receive a nomination in 2012 for The Help.

I also love that Miss Stone isn't afraid to change it up, she rocked blonde hair, brown hair, and red hair.

In Giuseppe Zanotti at the Friends With Benefits Premiere. I love hoe she contrasted the bright
colour blocking in the dress with a nude heel.

She looks SO stunning. I absolutely love this look. The makeup, the hair and

Chateau Labourdonnais - Mauritius

Although I have lived in Mauritius for sixteen years I always enjoy rediscovering its hidden treasures like the Chateau Labourdonnais. A 150 year old traditional Colonial house in the midst of a tropical haven. It is a wonderful place to unwind and walk through the gardens, learn a bit about the history of the Chateau and simply appreciate the beauty of nature.

All That Glitters

I love all of the sparkle I'm seeing lately! Sequins studded dresses and shorts and glitter covered tops are my favourite trend at the moment. This post was inspired by a gold top I found on Polyvore. It lead me to create the set below.

It's party season, and lets face it, not many of us can afford a $5,000 outfit (I wish!!).

I found all of the "Rich Girl" items first and then re-created the same outfit for a fraction of the price in "Poor Girl." Hope you enjoy!!

Tales Of Twenty Two - Polytechwest Fashion Show

Last week I had the chance to see the graduating fashion show of the Polytechwest students. My old psychology lecture hall at UWA transformed it self into a spectacular stage, the centre draped with tulle and fairy lights to create a focal point and set the tone for a dazzling runway show. A Walk on William Street - Part Two

On our way to check out the vintage shops on William Street, Nadine and I popped into Tu, where Pippa McManus is currently showcasing her beautiful fashion artwork. I'm currently writing an article about Pippa for Colosoul Magazine, which I'll put up on the blog as soon as it's published.

Tu is an adorable Perth boutique, located at 218a William Street. I thought the name was a little odd at first, but after learning what it meant, I think it's quite clever. The name comes from the Mandarin word for illustration/art, but it also means you in Spanish, French and Italian. Individualism and art are what style is all about, so what better name is there for a clothing shop?

Tu is the home of it's own label and is a supporter of up-and-coming Australian designers. The boutique is full of locally made, vintage-inspired, clothing and accessories as well as real vintage pieces available under the label forever tu loved. Online shopping is available on their website as well.

Another fun shop that Nadine and I found was Rummage. The bright colours in the window display caught our attention, and inside we found a huge selection of belts, bags and other accessories. Our favourite: the bags that were inspired by this year's popular colour-blocking trend.

A Walk On William Street - Perth (Part One)

On Friday Nadine and I decided to check out the We Heart Vintage vintage summer pop-up shop in Northbridge that opened on November 9. We had never really ventured down William Street before and were pleasantly surprised by all of the cute little shops and restaurants. We found a couple of really great little vintage places (some pop-up, some not), that we thought we would share with you.

Miss Brown Vintage - Pop-up Shop

Miss Brown Vintage is located a little further down the street than the rest of the vintage shops, but don't miss out!! I loved the skirts at this shop (especially the polka-dotted ones), and had trouble picking just one.

We Heart Vintage Pop-up Shop

The We Heart Vintage Summer Pop-up shop opened on Wednesday, November 9 for three months. You can find them at 224a William Street, Northbridge and they are open from Tuesday - Sunday 9-5:30.

The shop had a huge selection, and is definitely worth checking out. Tons of bags and cute dresses for decent prices (dresses all around $50).

Oh Henry Vintage

We almost missed Oh Henry Vintage, as it was located on the second floor of a building, but it's a great little shop, so make sure you don't make the same mistake! One of my favourites in Perth, Oh Henry had a great selection of fun dresses, skirts, tops and accessories.

WAAPA Grad Exhibition

Last weekend Kari and I went to see the graduating exhibition of The West Australian Academy of Performing Arts students. As a few of our designers from WABorn were show casing their talents we decided it was a must. The exhibition was an immense collection of immaculately constructed garments, props, portfolios of their development and their ability to construct creative spaces. Below are some of our favourites.

Bluebird Vintage Perth - Best Vintage Bags

There's a little vintage shop called Bluebird Vintage, right down the street from where Nadine and I live and last week we thought we'd check it out.

It's a really cute little shop, but what we really loved were the bags. There was a large selection: from leather laptop bags to little beaded clutches, all at really affordable prices. We snapped some photos of our favourites to share with you.

This store was the epitome of cute, the colours and cuts reminded me of succulent cotton candy and cupcake frosting. The layout was also beautifully arranged with so many interesting features; the flowers outside the window, beautiful illustrations on the wall, the suspended rail and of course the "to no where" stairs that featured shoes, accessories and cute little ornaments. Lady Petrova is located at 237 Flinders Lane in Melbourne.

Marvelous Melbourne

After our relaxing weekend in Mildura we flew off to Melbourne; the city famous for having four seasons in one day. I was unpleasantly surprised when we arrived to a raining 17 degree temperature after being in Mildura's 36 degree heat. Making matters worse unfortunately I did not pack enough warm clothes or shoes and found myself very cold! However walking for hours exploring every corner of this arty city I completely forgot about my wet feet and was blown away by how much there was to discover. Two days was not nearly enough but now I know my way around and am really looking forward to go back! Below are some photos of buildings and things I loved.

Country Getaway

Last Thursday I crossed four states to get to the cute country town of Mildura, for a well deserved getaway! We flew from Perth, Western Australia to Adelaide, South Australia, drove five hours to Mildura, Victoria and then crossed over the Murray River into New South Wales. Mildura is a lovely little town surrounded by wineries and fruit farms (the oranges were the juiciest I have tasted in years) and the best place to just relax.

Simply the most stunning roses I have ever seen their scent was fragrant and fabulous!

This photo spread shot by Mark Seliger, featuring Emma Watson in couture gowns from Vogue Italia in September 2008 is one of my all-time favourites. They photos are so romantic and Watson is absolutely stunning. See her comments on the shoot here.

Fall/Winter 2011 Essentials - Chanel, Rag & Bone, Prada, Dior and More

Although I'm not currently in Canada, I will be arriving back home right when it starts to get cold, so I thought I would do a little Fall/Winter post for those of you on the other side of the world.

This fall's must-haves: skirts and pants made with warm, textured fabrics (think tweeds, knits and thick cottons), cropped and oversized knit sweaters, cable-knit tights and wooly socks.

I also love a nice pair of boots, (especially the Hunter Wellington boots below) with some high wool socks underneath - practical and cute.

As for colour scheme: mustard yellow, olive green, sandy beiges and grey's were all big on the Fall/Winter 2011 runway.

Chanel Fall/Winter 2011 Ready-to-Wear Runway Show:

This was one of the most epic runway shows I've ever seen. Chanel always puts on a show, but this post-apocalyptic-district 12 look was something very surprising.

The smoky coal background contrasted so well with the grey's and blacks of the line. And the clothing, in a variety of black, textured fabrics, complete with Chanel's classic feminine touches, really gave the show a dark, modern, futuristic feel.

I love everything about this look: the textures, the rough tye-dye look of the pants contrasted with the floral detailing on the jacket. Genius.

A really modern twist on a classic Chanel suit jacket. I love this outfit, and Freja makes it look even better.

I love how this creamy colour pops with the black background. And of course, the bag is AMAZING.

PFF - Restyle and Two Bucks 'til Wednesday Vintage Sale

After the bright and lively runway show from Re-Style, Kari and I couldn't wait to get our hands on some seriously cheap vintage goodness (Two Bucks 'til Wednesday doesn't sell anything beyond $20 and all proceeds go to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation). Some of the garments presented during the show were going on sale at the Re-style and Two Bucks 'til Wednesday and pop-up store, located in the Perth Cultural Centre. So before the craziness of the sale, we decided to take advantage of some of Perth's lazy spots. I particularly loved these stairs with the writing on them and the ones with the comfy bean bags.

I loved the layout of the pop-up store, the vintage caravan, the brightly coloured rainbow surrounding the fire place and the lazy seats. Everything was bright and joyous!

I found this gorgeous bright purple baggy high neck top that I thought would look great with black and white as this outfit shows and the best part; it was only $5!

Lovely 70's chiffon dress, with the most stunning print

Who would have ever imagined that pink and leather would be a match made in heaven? Certainly not me, but this skirt caught my eye and I just had to have it! As it's such a statement piece you would think I would keep the styling simple but I just thought this outfit was so unexpectedly cute.

This dainty and feminine dress caught Kari's eye, her favourite features are the tiny polka dots and pleats.

Beautiful $9 clutch from the Two Bucks 'til Wednesday sale, and $18 golden pearl bracelet from Lucy in Disguise in Subiaco.

Originally this dress was full length which put me off it a bit, but I really liked the print so I decided to shorten it to make it look more modern and now I'm so glad I got it.

WABorn revealed!

Finally I have some free time to contribute to our blog after the insanely time consuming job of organising The WABorn Theatrical Fashion Show, and despite the stress and chaos it was a fantastic experience and was immensely successful (the show sold out and there were still lines all the way through to the parking lot). Perth Fashion Festival - Re-Style Fashion Show

Nadine and I were so busy last week with the WA Born fashion show that we hardly had time to enjoy any of the Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) shows that have been going on. (WABorn posts to come!!)

We did make it to a couple of events on Saturday and Sunday though.

Re-Style was a fashion show that took place at Forrest Chase in the city. The show featured Perth designer labels: Lonely as a Cloud, On a Whim, Little Gracie, On Tour and Peppermint Milk, which take vintage pieces and re-invent or update them.

So the reason Nadine and I have been MIA is because I am now in Australia with her and we are working on the big WA Born fashion show, which is this Thursday. Sooo busy. Nadine has put so much work into it, and I know it will all be worth it. The show is going to be great. If you're in the Perth area you MUST come. Straight Outta the Seventies

I was shopping in Kelowna a few months ago when I came across the shop Blonde on Bernard St. I thought I would just pop in and take a look, but I instantly fell in love. They had so many adorable dresses, skirts and tops (for amazing prices!!) that I wanted to buy the entire store.

After trying on clothes for awhile I decided on this amazing little sixties/seventies printed mini dress for $60. It's so adorable and it fit me perfectly. I also love the zipper and the deep "V" shape in the back. For anyone in the area this store is DEFINITELY worth checking out. I'm in love.

My sister and I were visiting my great grandma and great aunt when we came across this wallpaper in their downstairs bathroom. It's very...bright. We thought it would be fun to do some photos using it as a background.

The Wedding Chicks Blog

I absolutely love this idea!! Such a great and inexpensive way to ask your best friends to be bridesmaids, especially when they live in a different city. The blog said that the bride who made these boxes up bought cigar boxes for $3.00 each at a craftstore and painted them.

She included photos, pretty papers, a vintage handkercheif/Scarf to line the bottom and some paint chips with her colour scheme.
